67 Percent Project

Yet again, America has found a way to make the majority the minority on a national platform. Marketing the lesser percentage of a whole statistical population on large platforms, creating, then exploiting the insecurities of the majority.
Race, money, size, these are a few of the places that this marketing tactic can be seen in American media.
Race: in America white people, "the majority" make up 63% of Americas population, while only representing about 6% of the worlds population.
Money: We all know about, and have been effected in some way or another by American media's glorification of the 1%. Americas 1% riches, hold roughly 38% of Americas wealth.
Now we are faced with yet another striking population percentage being marketed on a backward scale.
Size: In another attempt to reduce the voice of the majority American and foreign advertising firms fail to represent "the majority" in their ads. Popularly casting the straight model as the face of brands that mark bill board and reflect only 43% of American women.
Salute to Refinery 29, Lane Bryant and Aerie for pointing out this marketing injustice with there 67 Percent Project. This project is shining a very large light on the faces of the majority demanding that the voices, images, and story of American media reflect the majority and showcase the beauty of plus size America.
I learned of this movement via actress Danielle Brooks instagram, you too can learn more and join the movement, by going to refinery29.com or following the hashtag #seethe67.
You can hear all about the 58% of men in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East that are considered to be plus size. The 68% of women world wide that are larger than a size 12. The growing statistics attached to the negative depictions of women and their size. The growing statistics attached to weight related depression, because no one has told these beautiful plus size women and men that they are normal and fine.
.... All of this is not to say the the 43% is not important or relevant. It's not to frown upon straight model, or designers who use straight models. It's just to say.... use a few plus size models as well. Design beautiful clothes for everyone.
And I can guarantee that your sales and profit of designers, project managers, product endorser, advertising/ marketing firms and brands will see increase, because people buy where they are comfortable and reflected.
... That's All for Now
XOXO,
Brooklyn
